Get rid of unnecessary things so that you can have time to do the best things. The Holy Spirit will show you what to do.
It is easy to fill your free time each day doing trivial things that don’t matter. And many of these things won’t make you a better person, or help you to grow as a believer in Christ.
When you log on to a social media site, an hour passes before you know it. And you can’t get that hour back to use towards something more productive.
You need time for rest and recreation. But don’t spend the majority of your free time doing unproductive things.
Discipline is not the easiest thing to have day after day and year after year.
But you can succeed in this area with the help of the Holy Spirit. He can give you the passion to stay disciplined. You will start to see spiritual results from living a life that is led and controlled by the Holy Spirit.
It’s easy to fall into the trap of just doing something to fill the time. So get rid of unnecessary things to do the best things.
Sanctification means set apart for something. So if you are set apart for a particular thing you make it a top priority in your daily life.
You WILL make the time to do what is most important to you. So you must decide what that is and make the necessary changes.
God wants you to make Him a top priority by deciding that you will walk in obedience to Him. He wants to have a real relationship with you.
I didn’t understand what that real relationship meant during my early years as a believer in Christ. I felt that going to church and participating in all the activities there pleased God immensely.
Before I knew it I had filled my life with good “things” but it carried me like a huge wave into the realm of “legalism.” I felt that all my good works were what pleased God the most.
I didn’t realize that because I was a Christian the Holy Spirit now lived inside me. And He wanted to lead and guide me by showing me truth, and giving me discernment. I didn’t understand that He IS a real, living being who wants to have a close relationship with me.
I never knew what a wonderful thing it could be until I experienced it firsthand.
What a relief not have to make a huge decision all on my own, and then wonder if I made the right one.
When I follow the leading of the Holy Spirit I know that I am going in the direction God chooses.
One person can only fit so many things into a single day. The Holy Spirit knows which of those things are the most important. And He helps me carry out God’s plan for my life.
To get the best things each day, you must cut out the less important ones.
Then the Holy Spirit will give you the discipline to concentrate on the best things.
