Obedience doesn’t have to make sense. You just need to do what you know God has told you to do. He won’t lead you in the wrong direction.
Genesis 12: 1-5
Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee.
And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing.
And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
So Abram departed, as the Lord had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.
And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother’s son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.
God had chosen Abram for a one-of-a-kind job. But he had a huge choice to make.
It must have been a great feeling to know God had chosen him to be the head of a great nation.
But his next thought must have been, “I don’t even have a son to be an heir.” How could he be a blessing to future generations without an heir? He could only take God for His Word and depend on that word to come true.
God told Abram to leave the home he had known for many years. And he was to leave without knowing full plans for his destination. (Because of his faith, God changed his name to Abraham. And people in future generations would call him the “Father” of their nation Israel.)
God had given Abram a direct word. Now it was his choice as to whether he would be obedient.
God already knew the exact route he would take them. He also knew every need they would have and how He would provide.
He wanted Abram to ultimately learn that he could trust God completely as this new adventure unfolded in his life.
God wants you to get to the point that you start to see and know His Character. When you do that, you will see that obedience doesn’t always make sense to you. But you know you can trust God to see where you can’t see.
You know God would never lead you to do something that would be a huge mistake or take you down the wrong road.
Very few of us will ever be called to do what Abram had to do. But God WILL, not maybe, but WILL ask you to do something. And you won’t understand why, or how it will all work out.
Don’t you want to learn to trust a God who is bigger than you? God made the universe and everything in it, so He can see all the plans He has made for you. And He knows exactly how to work everything out to make those plans happen.
Obedience doesn’t have to make sense. God might ask you to do something you have never imagined. But you will have tremendous peace and joy knowing that you are in the center of His Will. And you will come to know that there is no place you’d rather be.
