The Power of the Tongue is Mighty

Proverbs 18:21 – Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

Proverbs 21:23 – Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.

There have been more times than I want to remember when I spoke words and instantly regretted it. Or sometime later thought about what I had said, and the attitude I had when I spoke the words. Then I would beat myself up by saying, ”Why do I do and say things that I know I shouldn’t?”

We all could be much wiser and have a lot less regret if we just thought before we spoke.

It would be even better if we chose to never let our emotions control us. And to make the choice beforehand to never speak in anger, no matter how provoked we may feel.

If you have asked Jesus to be your Savior and made Him Lord of your life, you have help in your time of need. That help is the Holy Spirit. It is His job to lead and guide you each day as you navigate the challenges of life.

He will put a thought in your head that says, “Don’t do it – Don’t speak it!”

You have only a second to decide whether you will follow that advice or speak wrong words and regret it. When you are upset, it is easy to disregard that small voice and allow your emotions to control your words. Ask God to give you strength to think first before you speak about something that you may regret saying.

There are times when you need to stand up and speak out, but God can lead you in those times so that you can speak out of love, authority, and with His Power upon you. The power of the tongue can accomplish much more by saying the right words, in the right time, in the right season, and led by the Holy Spirit.
