Don’t miss out on God’s plan because you have your own expectations of how He will do things in your life. He usually works differently than you expect.
I Corinthians 1: 27-29
But God chose the foolish things of the world, that he might put to shame them that are wise; and God chose the weak things of the world, that he might put to shame the things that are strong.
In I Samuel Chapter 17, God told the prophet Samuel to go to Jesse’s house and anoint the next King of Israel. Jesse brought all his sons before Samuel except David. He was the youngest of 8 sons, and was out in the fields tending the sheep.
Since David was the youngest, his father must have thought Samuel would pick one of the older, taller, and stronger sons. It was only when none of them were chosen that he sent to the field to get David.
Many of the Jews had a hard time accepting Jesus as their Messiah. They expected Him to come as a mighty conqueror. And they needed someone to lead them in battle so they could defeat their enemies and live in peace.
The Jews couldn’t easily see that this “new” thing that Jesus had come to accomplish would have everlasting effects on all mankind.
They had been doing the same sacrifices for hundreds of years to atone for their sins. And up until now that had been sufficient.
In their way of thinking, the Messiah they had waited for would do things in the same way they expected. He would be a warrior-king who would lead them in victorious battle against their enemies.
The Pharisees and Sadducees were the top religious leaders of the day. They had access to the only Scriptures that were written down. And they had studied them diligently.
But they wouldn’t be open to the different way that Jesus chose to be the Deliverer of His people. They had already made up their minds that He would come as every “deliverer” before Him had done – defeat their enemies by fighting physical battles.
God had always helped them fight these battles, but this time He chose a different way to solve their problem.
And this new way of doing things threatened the very existence of the Pharisees and Sadducees. Their ultimate reaction was to do whatever it took to keep Jesus from bringing this new way of living to the people. But in the end their efforts failed.
It’s easy to miss out on God’s plan because you expect Him to do things a certain way.
FIRST, you must learn to hear Him. THEN you become a part of what He is doing instead of expecting Him to follow your plans.
God purposely chooses people who absolutely cannot do the job unless they solely depend on Him. That way He can receive all the glory.
He knows exactly what He plans to do and how everything will work out in your situation. But you must decide if you will trust Him even when you can’t always see how everything will work out.
The closer you get to God, the more you will know that you can trust Him with every detail in your life. You can’t see where you are going, but you are absolutely sure that He can.
And you are absolutely sure He will always lead you in the right direction.
